The Twelve Days of A Caregiver's Christmas
On the First Day of Christmas, I made my list of presents to buy for our family.
On the Second Day of Christmas, I shopped on Black Friday for bargains.
On the Third Day of Christmas, I shopped for more bargains because they extended Black Friday sales to Saturday.
On the Fourth Day of Christmas, I wrote Christmas cards to all our friends abroad.
On the Fifth Day of Christmas, I visited my Mum and got her list for Christmas giving.
On the Sixth Day of Christmas, I made six cheese balls for my Mum to give to her friends and helpers.
On the Seventh Day of Christmas, I made lemon squares and put them in the freezer (to avoid putting them in my mouth!)
On the Eighth Day of Christmas, I made my Nana's shortbread Christmas cookies and froze... most of them.
On the Ninth Day of Christmas, I made pastry for the Canadian Christmas Eve pork pie. Froze it!
On the Tenth Day of Christmas, I decorated the Christmas tree with Nicholas.
On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, I wrapped all the gifts.
And on the Twelfth Day of Christmas, I looked at my family, our friends and our helpers and I said thank you. Then I ate everything in the freezer.
For a special early Christmas cracker, here is a recipe for Brownies that is so easy and quick, you can make it and give to everyone on your list:
Quick and Delicious Brownies:
1/2 cup margarine or butter in a plastic mixing bowl melted in microwave
cocoa - about two heaping dessert spoonsful
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips if you like
Stir all together and bake in an 8" greased pan at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes and no longer.
Sprinkle with icing sugar once the brownies are cool or ice them with chocolate frosting if you want to get fancy.

Wow, are we already that close to Christmas?
I will have to try your recipe! xo
YES because all caregivers have to get ready ridiculously early in order to be ready for anything. I do all Nick's shopping and my Mom's (I think a lot of women shop for many others, actually). I remember hearing a call-in show about how many professional women (nevermind caregivers of any sex) do all the gift shopping. It was a guilty secret for every mother who called in. And then if you like to bake as I do, well, it starts early (but so does the eating ;)
This was such a lovely post-- and I might be borrowing your freezer trick!
This was such a cute post! And I will be borrowing your freezer trick!
Thanks Allie, and take it from me, brownies taste good even if they're still frozen!
