Are you aware of what ramifications, if any, there might be with respect to potential funding of support services for children (adult or minor) with and without adoption? If the birth parent should pass away leaving the step parent in charge of the welfare of the stepchild with disabilities, might it be easier to access funding for support services in some regions if adoption has NOT taken place? Just wondering...The Caregivers' Living Roomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10920119448415733545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489173439865061632.post-23877259128054885902013-06-09T16:17:50.250-04:002013-06-09T16:17:50.250-04:00step parent adoption one of the most common form ... step parent adoption one of the most common form of adoption. Step-parenting a child with disabilities is a very difficult and unique position to be in and certainly is not a topic that people talk about much at all. Silken Laumann spoke again at Holland Bloorview in Toronto recently - here's the link to that article/report: http://bloom-parentingkidswithdisabilities.blogspot.ca/2013/05/lack-of-help-for-adult-children-prompts.htmlThe Caregivers' Living Roomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10920119448415733545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489173439865061632.post-43462870839596673682013-05-22T18:37:42.572-04:002013-05-22T18:37:42.572-04:00Wow I feel the same exact way about my step daught...Wow I feel the same exact way about my step daughter! This article really helped me understand a little more. I am the sane way with punishments I can't do the same effective things that I do with my son because she just doesn't understand. Like you said in this I feel sometimes like she is just a really rude, misbehaved, spoiled child given a label and its really hard to wrap your head around especially not having the bond of biological parent.Saelors_Mamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02493857597714962383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489173439865061632.post-25433536369649626302013-02-05T18:29:27.018-05:002013-02-05T18:29:27.018-05:00I am so sorry that you are having what sounds like...I am so sorry that you are having what sounds like a terribly frustrating and sad time in your family. I hope that the doctors and therapists can help over time. I know it must seem impossible, but the words that come into my mind are from the Roman statesman, Cicero who said, "If you want to influence me, you must know my thoughts, feel my feelings and speak my words" (perhaps not it exactly, but close enough). Anyway, the sentiment is that you must get inside someone's head if you want to influence their thoughts and behavior. I can't imagine how that will be possible with so much of your life feeling like a battleground. But maybe with time ... and help from a loving and clever team of extended family and professionals. I wish you all the very best for a happy ending to this difficult time. The Caregivers' Living Roomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10920119448415733545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489173439865061632.post-58478046037596803982013-02-05T17:28:24.936-05:002013-02-05T17:28:24.936-05:00I am a new step parent to a 10 year old with high ...I am a new step parent to a 10 year old with high functioning autism and I struggle terribly with it. She is so rude, disrespectful and mean. We are working with therapists and doctors to get help for her and for our family. She consumes our family life and at the time we are very disfunctional and not happy. I cannot rap my head around this disease, she just seems like a mean kid that was givin a label so it is ok to treat people badly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489173439865061632.post-24085398606580091872013-01-28T01:07:11.676-05:002013-01-28T01:07:11.676-05:00It is always appreciable to give support to childr...It is always appreciable to give support to children with autism. The children with autism should be treated as same as the the normal children are. Even I have also worked for these children for around 5 years.Autism Irelandhttp://cluas.ie/children/autism/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1489173439865061632.post-1660236544218561602012-12-11T14:33:40.248-05:002012-12-11T14:33:40.248-05:00I don't know.
